Ottawa 2070

"The picture takes 3 decades after a global collapse in the international order. After growing discontent with electoralism, a growing climate crisis driving a refugee spike in the US, and some cases of extreme unconstitutional actions/abuse by major parties against more anti establishment factions, it leads to a second American civil war. Abroad the EU after a series of departures, ie Italy, Greece, and Hungary, eventually collapses when global markets collapse due to American instability. China which was dealing with the middle income trap, saw itself fall backwards, and parts of its political establishment turn on the system. In general, the big powers of the world sort of just lost their crap. In the aftermath, China is ruled by a Pinochet style military dictatorship, Europe is split into its member states, with various ideological end goals. The US after it’s brief but intense civil war, has in essence a illiberal democracy set up, and begins making cultural and economic reforms to fit a more culturally right wing, economically left wing mind frame. Electoralism works similar as to it does in Iran. The US has to spend in essence a generation rebuilding itself, and retracted from world affairs. It ends this streak by its invasion of Canada, which was driven by multiple concerns. For one, Canada had increasingly temperate and livable lands. It also had water reserves/just natural resources in General the US needed. But beyond all that, Canada still retained its liberal credentials, and was not in good relations with the US, preferring to stay in touch with the Liberal nations of Europe. That was all addressed in the 12 Hour War. In 12 Hours, after some manufactured causis beli and drummed up Public support, the US invaded. The Canadian Military was left incapacitated in the first 2 hours, and by hour 4 American troops were in Ottawa. By hour 12, the nation had been secured."
